Analysis of indie pop videos: Emily

I chose too analyse the indie pop video for the song 'come back home' by Two Door Cinema Club.

This video fits in with the usual conventions for video's in this genre. For example the video has many close ups of the lead singer and the other band members. After a minute into the video, the video also splits into 3 screens and each screen follows a narrative for one of the band members, and the narratives include voyeurism and you see the members in the supermarket and eating food.
Mixed in with the narratives are short clips of the band playing their instruments which is very typical of the indie genre they are playing typical instruments like guitars and drums.
It also includes video conventions that aren't typical in indie videos, like how the video is longer than the song as it includes a short clip of a crashed car at the beginning of the song too set the scene for the storyline of the video. this means that the video is longer than the typical indie video which usually last 2-3 minutes whereas this video lasts 3.30 minutes.
I think that audiences would like this video as it would appeal too the fans of this genre because it includes everything they like e.g. indie clothes, indie instruments and the video is interesting and unique which is what appeals too this audience in comparison too how pop audiences like videos that are less unique and include things like dance routines etc.

  1. What else do you notice - does it create more narrative than other genres? does it use a lot of performance/ green screen? does it try to be more creative in its use of editing? do the artists act in it or play instruments? See if you can add a little more!
